What new Fords are on the way? Here we take a look at the new Ford models you can expect to see in showrooms over the coming years

It’s been an exciting year for Ford, with the firm launching important new cars such as the Puma and latest generation Kuga.

The firm’s also really made headway with its electrified offensive, introducing mild-hybrid powertrains to its most popular cars – the Fiesta and Focus – while also introducing a plug-in hybrid version of both its best-selling Transit Custom and Kuga.

But there’s plenty more exciting things in the pipeline. Here, we look at what new Fords are on the way.

Mustang Mach-E

Arguably one of Ford’s most important cars in years, the Mustang Mach-E is the firm’s bespoke EV and is a radical departure from the norm. With a Tesla-like interior dominated by a huge digital display, it’s a far cry from Ford’s current range, but also comes with cool Mustang-like styling

Ford is also promising a range of 370 miles, which will be the longest of any electric car currently available and a host of derivatives to suit most buyers. Prices start from just over £40,000 and it can be pre-ordered now via Ford’s website with a £1,000 deposit. First deliveries are expected at the start of 2021.

Puma ST

The Ford Puma has already proven a smash hit and scooped key awards such as What Car?’s Car of the Year. A key part of its success has been down to the way it drives. WIth impressive agility for a high-riding model, it’s certainly put the model in good stead for a hotter derivative.

And that’s exactly what’s around the corner as a sporty ST is set to become available. It’s expected to share much in common with the Fiesta ST – not least its 197bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine – and be an absolute hoot behind the wheel. It’s been teased on multiple occasions, and is expected to be unveiled imminently.

Hybrid S-Max and Galaxy models

While MPVs might have fallen out of favour with buyers next to SUVs, Ford continues to have plenty of success with its S-Max and Galaxy people carriers, which were both given a light update last year.

And as part of Ford’s ambitions to increase the number of electrified derivatives it offers, the firm is set to introduce new hybrid versions of both the S-Max and Galaxy. They will each use a new 2.5-litre ‘self-charging’ powertrain, producing 197bhp and 210Nm of torque, and offering sub-140g/km CO2 emissions.

Ford promises that both cars will remain seven seaters and stay just as practical as the standard car, while the technology will be the first of its kind in the segment when they debut at the start of 2021. While few details have been unveiled, Ford  The Kuga SUV is also set to use this powertrain as well, which will sit alongside the plug-in hybrid model already available.

Electric Transit

Ford has already introduced mild- and plug-in hybrid options to the Transit line-up, and next on the cards is a new electric model.

Set to be available at the end of 2021, the model will be an EV version of the full-size Transit, and is set to be a ‘last-mile’ option aimed at city users. Full specs and further details are yet to be announced.
