Here at Browne & Day in County Londonderry, our range of Ford Hybrid vehicles give you the best of both worlds powered by both an electric motor and a conventional engine.
Hybrid vehicles offer a range of benefits from cost savings to being environmentally friendly:
More Economical - Hybrid vehicles are not only more economically friendly due to the reduced emissions, they also self-charge using what would be wasted energy in a standard petrol or diesel vehicle. When the brakes are applied, energy is harvested and inputted back into the engine to then power the car. A Hybrid vehicle will reduce the running costs associated with owning a vehicle, such as limiting the amount of times you need to refuel as well as the amount you spend on repairs and servicing. Ford Electric vehicle batteries come with an 8 year/ 100,000 mile warranty as standard.
Environmentally Friendly - Hybrid vehicle transmit zero emissions making them incredibly environmentally friendly and reducing your carbon footprint, especially if you travel many miles per month.
No Range Anxiety - For those who travel long distances and are put off upgrading to an electric vehicle due to the worry of running out of charge, a Hybrid Vehicle is the perfect compromise and it will remove the worry of running out of range on those longer journeys. Hybrid technology works by utilising the petrol reserves which are used only when the vehicle has gone over the electric battery range. If you are doing shorter journeys, you will find you never go over the range and never have to use your petrol reserves. Finding an electric charging port can be one of the worries associated with owning an electric vehicle so a Hybrid model would be the ideal option for those doing long journeys.
Mild Hybrid (MHEV), vehicles have an internal combustion engine, but they also have a larger battery and more powerful motor. This provides more assistance to the engine and enables the vehicle to drive parts of short journeys at low speeds using the electric motor alone. Thanks to the conventional engine, this can help improve driving range. This is because the vehicle is capable of using both battery and the internal combustion engine.
Electric Vehicles FAQ's
As Electric Vehicles are still considered new technology, there are still a lot of questions asked about whether they are suitable for certain requirements.
How long does it take to charge an Electric car?
This can vary greatly depending on the model and the form of charging. For example, a standard domestic power source will take longer to charge the battery to full capacity than a dedicated public Electric vehicle charging point. As a benchmark, the fastest, high voltage chargers can deliver 350 miles of range in just 1 hour. Using a standard domestic power source, you can expect it to take around 12 hours to charge the battery to 360 mile range.
Can you charge an Electric car at home?
Yes you can. You will either utilise a standard domestic charge point, which takes longer to charge or you can have a wall box fitted which delivers faster charge. If you are concerned about energy usage, you can switch to a dedicated Electric Vehicle tariff which will be offered by your energy provider.
What range do I get with an Electric car?
With a pure electric car, you can expect a range of anywhere up to 370 miles, whereas with a Hybrid model, you can expect to use your Electric charge on journeys up to 35 miles, before utilising the petrol reserves. The range of the charge depends on outside factors such as driving style and weather. If you are utilising the air-con on a regular basis, the energy will be used to power this and you can expect less driving range, much like you would with any standard petrol or diesel engine.
How do you pay for electric charging
If you are using a public charging port, you can take advantage of the FordPass charging subscription which works as a pay-as-you-go method. When you charge your car, you will receive a notification with details of your charge costs.
Do you need to service an electric car?
Yes, you will still need to service your electric car as you would any other. Electric cars have fewer moving parts compared to a traditional petrol or diesel engine, meaning there is less chance of anything going wrong or needing repairing.
What Hybrid vehicles are available in the Ford range?
Ford have a number of Hybrid vehicles in their range so you won't feel like you have to compromise on your standard petrol or diesel engine.
Ford Fiesta EcoBoost Hybrid - the Ford Fiesta hybrid powertrain uses an electric motor to support the petrol engine, delivering more power and improved fuel economy. The separate 48V Li-ion battery is automatically charged with regenerative braking, so you don’t have to look for places to recharge.
Ford Puma Hybrid - Offering a choice of new forward-thinking, advanced EcoBoost hybrid petrol options, the Puma engines deliver outstanding performance, together with impressive fuel economy and noticeably lower CO2 emissions figures than other conventional, non-hybrid engines.
Ford Focus EcoBoost Hybrid - The Ford Focus EcoBoost Hybrid features a battery-driven electric motor that supports the engine by increasing power and improving fuel economy. The hybrid battery is recharged using regenerative braking technology so there’s no need to connect it to an external power source.
Ford Kuga Hybrid - The Ford Kuga is available with three hybrid options: A Plug-in Hybrid, EcoBlue Hybrid, and from late 2020, a Full Hybrid will complete the trio. Ford’s advanced hybrid technology is designed to deliver a cleaner, quieter, more sophisticated approach to SUV driving.
Ford Mondeo Hybrid - Boasting super-low emissions, outstanding efficiency and desirable performance, the New Ford Mondeo Hybrid doesn’t compromise. Embrace the efficiency of a state-of-the-art self-charging system, which uses a 2.0L petrol engine to generate electricity for an electric motor which drives the front wheels.
