Ford Fiesta ST review: still the best small hot hatchback on the road
If you are into your performance cars, but a supercar is well out of your range at the moment, then the Ford Fiesta ST, which has won no less than 22 awards since its release, might be the car for you.
The award winning model has most definitely earned its reputation within the hot-hatch class, winning What? Car of the Year 2020 - Best Hot Hatch.
So what makes the Ford Fiesta ST an award winner?
Well, with it being a hot-hatch, let's first take a look at the performance.
With three selectable driving modes, which include Track, Sports and Normal, the Ford Fiesta ST is fine tuned to ensure each setting provides maximum drivability and performance, by modifying the brake pedal, throttle position and sterring response.
You will find with the Fiesta ST that there is optimum handling, whether you are on the track or simply driving on motorways. The Electric Power Assisted Steering adjusts to your driving speed and the conditions, so if you are travelling at a lower speed, the steering becomes lighter and more maneuverable and when the speed is increased, the steering becomes firmer, offering greater control. The Electric Power Assisted Steering also takes into account any cross winds or other driving conditions and adjusts the steering power accordingly.
What about the drivability?
The driving experience is one like no other. Parking is made exceptionally easy and motorway cruising is a breeze too. The array of driver assist features, such as Lane Keeping System and Traffic Sign Recognition, make it much easier for you to focus on your driving and enjoying your car, especially on long, tedious journeys.
The Blind Spot Information System detects other vehicles that appear in your blind spot that you may not have seen, activating an orange light in your wingmirror to warn of potential danger. This makes lane changes and overtaking more seamless and much safer.
The Rear View camera shows you what is going on behind your vehicle, making reversing, especially into tight spaces, a dream. This feature ensures the safety of pedestrians but also keeps your car damage free.
Hill Start Assist offers that added bit of help, particularly on steep hills. The feature offers 2.5 seconds of additional pressure on the brakes, making hill starts easy and stress free.
What's the inside of the Fiesta ST like?
When you are considering a performance car, you want it to be aesthetically pleasing and packed with technology features, with the same level of detail that is under the hood.
The Fiesta ST comes with a premium audio system as standard with a powerful 10 speaker and subwoofer setup. Ford SYNC allows you to seamlessly connect and control your phone using the 8" colour touchscreen. Once connected, you can play music and use voice control to activate the navigation system.
With Applink, you can also connect to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, allowing you to access your favourite smartphone apps using the integrated colour touchscreen, making driving whilst staying connected much safer.
The interior has not been forgotten either, with state of the art race inspired RECARO sports seats and signature stitching. These seats are designed to offer optimised support and are available in leather, full fabric or Dinamica options.
For those longer journeys, the large panoramic sunroof offers increased airflow and natural light for a more enjoyable drive.
Another popular feature of the Ford Fiesta ST is the keyless entry option, allowing you to access your car, without having to use the key. The key is detected when it is in range, which could be in your pocket, and the vehicle will unlock as you get close to the vehicle.
